Okay, things got a little delayed (I've been trying to get
this site opened since mid January,) but here are my original
picks!
- 1999, by the Wilkinsons. A
great song by a great group. (And a great video, Amanda
Wilkinson looking hotter than ever hehe.) It's also kind
of the title track for the Wilkinsons' current album, 'Here
and now.' But they're not the same title you say? Well,
no, but '1999' does have the lyric 'This is here and now,
you are mine,' in it, so I stand by that statement.
- You could've had me, by Lace.
The hidden gem of Lace's debut album, this bittersweet
song was co-written by Stephanie Bentley, who some of you
might remember for a gorgeous duet she sang with Ty Herndon, 'Heart half empty.'
Download that song too and compare. (I wonder what 'you
could've had me' would have been like with Steph singing
it hehe.)
- That's just about right, by
Blackhawk. The hands-down classic from my favorite
guy country trio. A simple song about a painter, but it's
got to be one of the most inspiring lyrics I've ever
heard. Kudos.
- Where the green grass grows,
by Tim McGraw. Another classic song that probably
everybody has heard before, but I had to stick it in here.
And as a little challenge to any of you who might be
graphically inclined... can someone make me a funny
little cartoon of 'the camel's buried in a big straw
stack?' It took me years before I understood what words
Tim was saying in my line, and it's been one of my
favorite images. (Poor little camel.)
- Two different things, by
Mindy McCready. A funky little tune off Mindy's 'I'm
not so tough' album, I love this song just for the bass
rhytms and all that other cool stuff hehe.
- Love oughta work that way, by
Tara Lyn Hart. Tara Lyn is one of my favorite new
vocalists, and I keep swinging back and forth of which
tracks I like best from her album. This is a great one,
good lyrics, good harmony, great delivery by TLH. She
should make this her next video.
- One day you will, by Martina
McBride. A beautiful song from the 'Evolution' album,
even if it's slightly weird. You don't see many songs
written from the POV of 'love.' :-)
- Blank pages, by Patricia Conroy.
One of my faves from Patrician Conroy's 'Bad day for
trains' album, which includes her own version of 'My baby
loves me.' The chorus of blank pages is so cool - a
perfect word picture - for the experience of having no
words. (Almost ironic.)
- Amy's back in Austin, by
Little Texas. One of the first songs that got me
hooked on the country music, and a fitting testament to
the enduring talent of a fine band that has not itself
endured.
- Hurricane Alley, by Jim
Witter. One of the funnest songs I've ever heard,
this can be found on Jim's self-titled album. Prepare to
have a good time.
- You give me love, by Faith Hill.
We'll wrap things up by a great Faith tune off of her 'Faith'
album. This was certainly good enough to be released as a
single, but it never was, so the best exposure it got was
being played on the 'Mad About You' series finale hehe.
Well, that's it for this batch. I'll try to get some more up
soon (if I can find the time to upload them.) Hope you enjoy!
